LinkedIn score update on Favikon [April 2023]
The Favikon Score has been updated for April 2023, measuring the influence of LinkedIn content creators. Discover the key factors that affect the Influence Score and how it has evolved to reflect changes on the platform. Learn how to improve your Influence Score and become a top performer on LinkedIn.
The Influence Score is a rating system that goes up to 100, and it tells you just how much influence a content creator has on LinkedIn. Basically, it's a way to see how much buzz they're generating, how engaged their followers are, and how much conversation they're starting.
Creation of the Influence Score on Favikon
Starting in 2021, Favikon has been identifying, analyzing and ranking the best LinkedIn content creators out there. We rate them using our Favikon Score, which takes into account all sorts of account data, like engagement rate, follower count, growth, reach, and a whole lot more.
Following the last update of the ranking (October 2022), LinkedIn has evolved considerably. There are tons of new creators popping up from all over the world, and it seems like there's more content on there than ever before. In response to this boom, LinkedIn has also changed its algorithm in an attempt to keep a professional social media with good quality content.
So, with all the changes happening over at LinkedIn, we had to adjust our Favikon score too. We looked at way more case studies this time around, so our new scales totally match what's going on over the platform. This new scoring system helps us see just how much sway creators have on the network, and the numbers give a clear idea of where they're at - whether they're newbies, already big shots, or somewhere in between.
What is the Influence Score?
The Influence Score is a rating system that goes up to 100, and it tells you just how much influence a content creator has on LinkedIn. It's a way to see the amount of interaction they're sparking, the level of interest they're arousing, and the extent of the discussions they're initiating. Basically, this score tells you how much of an impact each creator is making overall.
Before going into the details of this new score, let's get something important out of the way: we've actually created Influence Scores for each social media, not just LinkedIn. And, just so you know, each score has been tailored to fit the unique features of its respective platform. We've considered a variety of factors like how engagement is expressed on each platform, how quickly accounts tend to grow, and the overall potential reach of each social media.
If we zoom in on LinkedIn specifically, here’s what you need to know:
- The following count is a crucial factor: micro-influencers definitely have potential, but if you want to make a lasting impact on the network and truly become influential, building a community over time is absolutely essential.
- The buzz rate is a key metric: as LinkedIn becomes more competitive with the influx of newcomers, it's increasingly important for creators to generate buzz - and even mega buzz - around their content. This ability to build hype is a telling indicator of a creator's potential for success, that is why we call it “the quality rate”.
- The growth rate is a proof of success: It shows that a creator is not only engaging their community and generating reach, but also able to consistently attract and retain new audiences. In other words, it's a sign that their content is truly resonating with people and they have the potential to establish themselves in the long term.
In summary, we place greater emphasis on the creator's ability to build a strong community over time, through the creation of engaging content that genuinely interests people and sparks meaningful conversation, positioning them as a leading voice in their field.
What is the difference with the previous score?
In the past, the LinkedIn landscape was vastly different. Only a handful of creators had sizable and established communities, leaving them with a monopoly on the attention. Meanwhile, there were many newbies who were hesitant to speak up and contribute to the platform. In this context, we placed great value on the micro-content creators who took the initiative and, thanks to the quality of their content, were able to develop their presence quickly. Many of them achieved remarkable growth rates and were able to sustain a certain level of buzz once their profile gained traction.
Today, it is essential to recognize the value of creators who have built a community over the long term, rather than focusing on those who generate momentary hype. Consistency over the long haul is key, which is why we place slightly less emphasis on daily posting or occasional buzz. In fact, the best most successful content creators often generate not only buzz but mega-buzz posts. This is a key indicator of their true impact, both within their niche and on LinkedIn as a whole. And of course, keeping a good growth rate is much more important than having a brief flash of success. After all, it's not enough to simply take flight - true excellence lies in achieving longevity.
At this point, you've likely got a pretty good grip on the majority of the factors we've reviewed. With LinkedIn becoming increasingly cutthroat, having quality content and a committed audience won't necessarily make you a top player on the platform. Our focus is on identifying the heavy hitters who are dominating on LinkedIn right now. And of course, as with any update to our rating system, we've significantly enhanced the precision of our grading scales. We've invested considerable effort into analyzing all the data to ensure consistency in our scoring methodology.
How can I improve my Influence Score?
Before we move on, it's important to note that being a top performer on LinkedIn doesn't necessarily require having the most experience on the platform. You don't need to have been creating content on LinkedIn for years to get a high influencer score. In fact, many long-time creators have become complacent, failing to adapt to emerging trends and subsequently losing their popularity. On the other hand, there are countless gems in the rough out there who are making waves and gaining recognition for their tremendous content.
So, if we recap, having a 5-year history on LinkedIn or hold a top executive position to establish a strong presence on the platform and attain a high influence score. As the network becomes more open to everyone, it gets more diverse and you can now find solopreneurs, employees, artists, and even students among the top-rated creators. So without further ado, let’s see what guidelines are important for you to keep in mind if you want to improve your score and get closer to the top.
It's no surprise that to increase your influence score on LinkedIn, you need to focus on two main areas: you account growth and your buzz rate. To improve on these specific points, there you can consult our guide on how to boost your LinkedIn profile. All things considered, it’s important to keep in mind that these numbers can fluctuate significantly based on both your field of work and your location.
Our rating system is based on actual results attained by content creators worldwide, who are included in our database. Depending on the size of your country's population and the prevalence of LinkedIn as a social media in that region, your outcomes can be heavily influenced. This means that your score can range from 30/100 and still be considered excellent, depending on the country you live in.
So, this score is influenced by a bunch of different factors, but we whipped up this diagram to give you a pretty good idea of what your punctuation usage says about you as a content creator.
