Interview Transcript:

Is LinkedIn Your Favorite Social Media? If Yes, Why?

Arin: Yes, LinkedIn is my favorite social media platform. The reason for that is because it's been the easiest place for me to connect with other people on a completely personal level. I also love that the algorithm is tailored towards content that is inspirational and informative rather than something that just gets clicks.

Is LinkedIn catching up for gaming content creators or still lagging?

Arin: Yeah it's definitely a very exciting time for gaming on LinkedIn. It's really starting to begin picking up stream and people are starting to actually take it really seriously, it kind of reminds me a lot of the early days of YouTube uh where LinkedIn is at right now and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future.

What is the most frustrating thing about Linkedin?

Arin: I would say kind of doesn't always know what it wants to be as a social media platform, it doesn't know if it wants to be something specifically for just job seekers or if it wants to appeal more to creators, and it's constantly making shifts to its algorithm to adjust that so I just wish it liked its creators a little bit more.

How do you feel about becoming one of Linkedin’s top influencers?

Arin: So, I never sought out to be one of the most influential people on LinkedIn, that was never my goal when I started posting. The reason I started posting was because, uh when I started posting about my career journey, when I started working at a video game company I got so many questions just asking me how I did it, what tips I had for this, and I just answered them, and because I was really honest and authentic and was sharing my experience from a constructive and authentic perspective, I think people really attached to that and really wanted to continue hearing what I had to say. I never post for clout or for views, or I never want. I never post anything just because I think “oh this post is going to get a lot of engagement or a lot of views”, so I think because of that people really appreciate what I have to say.

Do you feel it’s harder for women to be a content creator?

Arin: On LinkedIn, I would say it's definitely harder to get taken seriously on LinkedIn. Because you have to do a lot more work, you have to provide a lot more statistics, you have to site a lot more sources to be taken seriously. Um largely because um people won't just take your word or your expertise for it, I don't have any hard data to back this up but women often struggle to get promotions and to be taken seriously in the workplace, um and I imagine on a site about careers and career building the same applies on there.

What do you think about favikon?

Arin: I am quite a fan of uh favikon, mostly because especially on LinkedIn, following doesn't necessarily equal how much influence and how much uh power someone has on a specific social platform. So, I think the algorithms and data that favikon uses is quite powerful and quite informative in terms of being able to give an accurate assessment on how well someone's content's doing. It also keeps me in check, uh so whenever I don't feel like posting or if I don't feel like updating I can't can't let the favikon score drop so I have to keep I have to keep it up.

Do you want to add something?

Arin: If you are thinking about posting on LinkedIn and you want to get yourself out there just do it. Don't worry about likes, don't worry about how many people react to it, don't worry about how many impressions you get. If you get 200 people that see your post that's 200 people, think about a room of 200 people, that's how many people read what you have to say. You never know where it might lead you, and just putting yourself out there will really help you in your journey to establishing yourself whether you're looking for a job or you're just trying to get more of your personality out there. So, do it!
